Quarterly, students will be evaluated on the following three areas of learning: Ministry Skills, Bible and Theology, and Spiritual Formation.
Ministry Skills will be evaluated by faithfulness in ministry, use of ministry skill taught, and evaluation by the ministry overseer.
Bible and Theology will be evaluated based on completion of reading assignments, memorization of assigned Bible verses, class discussions, and self and peer group evaluation.
Spiritual Formation will be evaluated by faithfulness to the spiritual disciplines practiced, and in character growth and development. Students will be evaluated quarterly on their character growth and developments from self-evaluation, peer evaluation and teacher evaluation. Participating in the class community will enable character flaws to be manifested and character growth to be demonstrated. The student's ministry character development will be evaluated on the following qualities:
Mature Christian character is essential for an effective and fruitful minister of Jesus Christ. Over the course of time, a highly gifted person with a weak character will either destroy the ministry or the ministry will destroy him. Ministers with strong character can go the distance in faithfully serving God and continue to grow and mature in their inner being.
Since the class functions as a small Christian community, character qualities or character deficiencies will be demonstrated in our interactive learning and ministering environment. Therefore the identification of character strengths and weaknesses will be evident to the teacher, class members and student, and a plan to develop and grow in character will be implemented.
The following character qualities are essential for faithful and fruitful ministry:
Faithfulness means that you will always do what you say regardless of the cost or consequence. Faithfulness will be demonstrated in your regular attendance in class, church, and ministry opportunities and by consistently completing the tasks assigned to you or tasks that you say that you will to do.
Punctuality is either being on time or early for a scheduled event where others are dependent on your promptness. For a ministry in which you lead, punctuality means you arrive early enough to anticipate solving any problems that may arise and are fully prepared before those to whom you minister arrive. Punctuality will be demonstrated in consistently being on time or early for class, church services and ministry opportunities. On time for church services is 15 minutes before the service begins; for ministry opportunities you need to be there a minimum of 30 minutes before the ministry begins. Punctuality will also be evidenced in paying your tuition when or before it is due.
Patience is the ability to wait on self, others and God for things that are desired, or waiting for people to perform at the rate and manner of their choice. Patience is demonstrated in one's heart attitude toward delays and the speed of accomplishment of others. This will be demonstrated in allowing fellows students to finish their remarks before your turn to share. It also we be demonstrated in waiting while slower students finish an assignment or project.
Courtesy is being considerate of the wishes, needs, and requirements of others by seeking to honor and prefer others above oneself. Courtesy will be demonstrated by asking to be absent from class at least 24 hours prior to class time or, in the case of emergency, personally notifying the class instructor. It will also be shown in allowing others to finish what they are saying or doing before you do it.
Generosity is giving of your time, talent and treasure as God directs you to assist in meeting the needs of those around you. Generosity will be demonstrated in helping class members with financial needs such as tuition and giving time to students who need help with their class work.
Craftsmanship is doing all of your work with excellence to the best of your ability and in continuing to develop and exercise your skills to the full extent of your God given capacity. Craftsmanship will be demonstrated in handing in the best quality work to the fullest extent of your ability and in performing your ministry opportunities fully prepared.
Compassion is an inner feeling of hurt when others hurt and using whatever personal resources are available to meet a need. Compassion focuses on a concern and response to those spiritually lost and those who are suffering emotionally and physically. Compassion will be demonstrated in praying for and faithfully witnessing to the lost and in assisting classmates who are facing difficult circumstances.
Integrity is the inner resource that will do everything from a heart motive of following the principles of God without compromise. It is reflected in transparent and honest dealings with God, self, and others. Integrity will be demonstrated in being solely responsible for the work that is turned in and in open and honest communication with your teacher and fellow students.
Tolerance is the resource that enables us to respect and listen to the beliefs and opinions of others and respond to them in a loving manner. Tolerance will be demonstrated by your willingness to listen to others who hold beliefs and opinions contrary to yours and respond to them in Christlikeness.
Resourcefulness is the creative ability to find a way to complete quality work on time with an assigned or assumed task regardless of the obstacles you face or the sacrifices you need to make in order to do so. This may include enlisting the support of others if their help is necessary to complete the task. Resourcefulness will be demonstrated in your ability to have all work completed on time, meeting all requirements for that work regardless of life's circumstances or your areas of deficiencies.
Humility is the quality of knowing that whatever accomplishments have been achieved are done so because of what God has done either directly or through the instruments of others. Humility will be demonstrated in your willingness to thank others for who they are and what they have done and in your continuous gratitude for the gifts and abilities the Lord has lavished on you.
Passion is an inner drive that causes you to focus all of your energies and resources on the call and purposes of God in your life. Passion will be demonstrated in your zeal for learning about and the pursuit and implementation of ministry opportunities.
Thoughtfulness is the understanding of key life events of others and responding to them in a tangible expression of love and compassion. Thoughtfulness will be demonstrated in your insight and willingness to take assignments and paperwork to those who are absent from class. It is also demonstrated in attending events which honor or show empathy to a fellow student and the giving of gifts and in the sending of cards and notes that recognize a key life event.
Forgiveness is being able to release to God things that happened in the past and not bring them up again to yourself, others and God. Forgiveness will be demonstrated in maintaining healthy relationships with class members regardless to what is said or done or what is not said or not done.
Each quarter students will be evaluated from three perspectives in their growth and development of their character.
In addition to an assessment of character growth and development, a student will be assessed based upon a profile of a Living Faith School of Ministry Graduate. This will be done through a pre- and post-assessment of entering students and graduating students. Yearly, students will also complete the assessment to determine the results of their learning.
