Living Faith School of Ministry's philosophy of ministry training is based upon biblical teaching and examples of ministry training and therefore focuses on mentoring and small group learning as modeled by Jesus Christ. In many ways, this foundation makes this school unique among ministry training opportunities.
Your local church serves as a laboratory for Christian ministry both by example and in apprenticeship. All students will minister during their training at home church. The classroom will be a place of processing ministry experiences and learning how to enhance them. LFSOM will offer many opportunities to learn by doing ministry at various internships. Since it is in the local church, it is not necessary for those called into ministry to leave their jobs, homes, and communities and move to a seminary or Bible school to receive training.
Ephesians 4:11-12 clearly teaches that one of a pastor's main responsibilities is to "equip the saints to do the work of the ministry." Dr. Lee, an ordained Pastor and founder of Faith Chapel, takes this to mean that God has called him to train eager saints for ministry. Dr. Lee believes that preparing people who are alled into ministry is a God given responsibility. He is able to bring to the class over forty years of ministry experience and he is a practitioner in his present ministry. Dr. Lee feels that one of his key roles in training is the impartation of all that he has learned in ministry and he sees himself as mentor to his students.
Unlike many ministry training schools whose main purpose is to produce degreed theologians and professional ministers, the goal of LFSOM is to train men and women of God to be effective faithful ministers of Jesus Christ. The curriculum is targeted toward this one purpose. Since the focus is on practical ministry and not academic requirements, standard graded tests are not used to determine students' competence. Students graduate on the basis of their Christian character development, completion of their work, faithfulness to class attendance and participation and competency in ministry skills.
Dr. Lee's passion is to multiply himself in the lives of his students. He promises his students he will give his all to equip them for ministry. In response, he asks his students to give their all and commit themselves to three years of training and partnership with him. He therefore requires each student to join in a covenantal relationship with him. As a result, a student does not just take a class now and then. A student is also to commit him or herself to complete the studies. Training does not end with graduation, but Dr. Lee will continue to assist the graduates in finding God's place of ministry for them.
Jesus and twelve disciples spent three and one-half years together during which time He taugh them ministry and character and developed a strong bond of fellowship with them. In the same way, Dr. Lee and the students of LFSOM form a similar community and the join together in a cohort of a learning team. Academic competition and assertive individuality have no place in such a fellowship. The school functions as a unit whose purpose is to learn and grow together in preparation for what God has for them.
